Constructing a New Model

Ryan Anderson began his career with a focus on commercial construction. With a degree in building science from Auburn University, he had a solid background in construction management that was augmented with an internship and early experience at a major Memphis commercial contractor. But when he was ready to start his own business, RKA Construction, he was drawn to the residential side of the industry.

“We’re building people’s homes, where they spend every day,” said Anderson. “There’s something truly personal about residential construction.”

Formed in 2011, RKA Construction started small, working on remodels and building a foundation through word of mouth. As the company grew into high-end home builds and market construction, Anderson used his commercial background to differentiate from the standard approaches in the residential industry.

“Our model relies on site supervision from a talented, experienced supervisor who’s on the site every day, plus a well-organized office supporting the project,” said Anderson. “This process makes for a project that’s run efficiently and gives the owner a good experience from start to finish.”

Anderson has a personal banking relationship with Financial Federal for his own mortgage, and also coordinates construction loans with John Summers and Sam Hubbard in the construction division because both companies work so well together.

“While we’re bigger than most of our competitors, what people still want to see from a home builder is the personal touch and accessibility,” said Anderson. “Similarly, there are probably a number of local banks that could service our needs just fine, but it comes down to who is going to make it easiest for us on a day-to-day basis. Our time is valuable and we need to spend it with our clients instead of our bank.”
